Should anti-maskers be charged under the criminal code?

Over the past couple of weeks and months, even in a province like Saskatchewan and Manitoba there have been minor protests with regards to mandatory mask requirements imposed by the provincial governments.

Amid the possibilities of stricter lockdown measures being implemented in Manitoba, one that should be taken seriously would be using the criminal code against people who are clearly flouting the rules during the pandemic. As I was skimming through the criminal code today, I noticed 2 things. One " Everyone who, having an intent to commit an offence, does or omits to do anything for the purpose of carrying out the intention is guilty of an attempt to commit the offence whether or not it was possible under the circumstances to commit the offence." and the other was related to bodily harm.

The Saskatchewan Union of Nurses in their online advertising are using the statement, " It is a we thing, not a me thing", in order to appeal to those few people who have a hard time following the rules. I understand it if the person in question is homeless or is suffering through an extenuating situation and may potentially find it hard to get a mask, disposable or otherwise.

When I think of anti maskers, these are the examples that come to mind. When people go camping and don't put out the fire completely and leave the embers which causes a forest fire. The other is not exercising reasonable care while operating a motor vehicle. Irrational and careless is what I think of those people.

In Saskatchewan as a people, we should be going out of our way to make sure that the front line staff in hospitals and clinics are safe by doing our part. Physically distancing from others. Wearing a mask when physical distancing is not possible. Staying up to date with information provided by the Saskatchewan government and the Saskatchewan health authority. Wash your hands with soap and water frequently and when that is not possible use an alcohol based hand sanitizer.
